Auchmuty Library
The Auchmuty Library is located on the Western side of the Callaghan campus near the Shortland Union Building. As the campus hub for all your study needs, our spaces are vibrant and engaging places to meet, read, study and learn.
- Study spaces - Auchmuty Library offers a range of study zones that cater for different seating, lighting and noise level preferences. All of level 4 is a silent space.
- Bookable group study rooms include Zoom screens for video calls and screen-sharing, and individual study pods can be used for video calls and lecture participation.
- The AIC is located on level 2 and provides BYOD stations, PCs and Macs, individual and group desks and group study rooms. The Learning Lounge on level 3 is a relaxed and collaborative lounge-style study space. Outside of Library operating hours you will need your staff or student ID card to gain swipe access.
- Postgraduate space: Located in L404, Flowers Room, this area offers PCs and BYOD monitors and includes desks and lounge seating. There are three group study rooms, two with Zoom screens. There are also lockers – ask at the service desk for a key.
Entry is via student card swipe access and is restricted to postgraduate students and staff only.
To activate swipe access to the postgraduate rooms on your Student Card, please email your request to 16500@newcastle.edu.au. Please allow up to 5 days for your request to be processed.
- Special Collections - Home of the historical and cultural memory of the University and its regional context, our Special Collections are located on level 2.
- MakerSpace - a safe and supportive space where you can connect with fellow students, get creative, and learn new skills – all for free.
- Media Rooms - The Film Studios each contain a one touch recording set up with video camera, green screen, and configurable lighting. The Podcast Room contains an easy-to-use mixing desk and microphones for up to 3 users.
- Carers and kids room — Located in room L325 on level 3, the space provides a child-friendly environment where you can supervise your children while you study. Please book the room via Room Bookings
- Parents room - Our Parents Room in room L324 on level 3 features everything you'll need to care for your baby, including a comfortable chair, fridge, microwave, and baby change table.
- Multifaith reflection and prayer room - Located on level 2, behind Sprout café
- Parray Yayirri and the Wollotuka room - Located on level 3, Parray Yayirri is a dedicated collection and a space for Indigenous students to study and connect with peers. The Wollotuka Room includes two computers, a whiteboard, a meeting table and a printer.
- Computers and BYOD monitors — students and staff can log on to computers using their student or staff ID and password. Or you can connect your own laptop to a monitor via the USB-C cable provided (which will also charge your device).
- Food and drink facilities - There is a student kitchen in each 24 hour space with microwaves, a sink, hot water and vending machines. Sprout café is located in the AIC on Level 2. You can eat and drink in the Library but please be respectful of our spaces and of the needs of other users.
- Printing and photocopy facilities
- Loanable laptops - students can borrow Windows laptops from the service desk using your student ID card.
Mobility Parking
There are dedicated disabled parking spaces for students who hold a valid RMS Mobility Permit near the Auchmuty Courtyard and the Shortland Building. All accessible parking around the campus can be located using the interactive maps.
Library Spaces
Auchmuty Library offers accessible group study rooms, computers, desks, bathrooms, and student kitchens.
Lift Access
Lift access is available to all levels of the Library. Students can access the Library via the lift through the Auchmuty Information Common on Level 2. Lifts can be located using our interactive map.
24-hour Spaces
The Auchmuty Information Common and the Learning Lounge are both 24-hour spaces for students to use the Library outside of staffed hours.
Please note that outside of Library open hours the Auchmuty Information Common is the only 24-hour space in our Auchmuty Library that is wheelchair accessible. If you require access to the Learning Lounge outside of staffed hours, please contact Campus Security for assistance.
Silent, quiet and low-sensory spaces
There are low-sensory booths and adjustable lighting in reading rooms 1, 2 and 4. Level 4 has two silent zones. The Chill Out Lounge has bean bags and adjustable lighting. The multi-faith reflection room can also be used as a quiet, low-sensory space.
Adaptive Technology Centre
During Library opening hours, students can access assistive technology, sensory relief, and ergonomic furniture in the Adaptive Technology Centre on Level 3. During staffed hours, AccessAbility staff are available to offer support.
Accessible Bathrooms
We have inclusive and accessible bathrooms on all levels of the Library, including in the 24 hour spaces. All-inclusive and accessible bathrooms across the Library and the University can be located using the interactive map.
Accessing Resources
Students can access resources including eJournals and eBooks, inter-library loans and an extensive range of various databases. Additionally, students registered with AccessAbility can receive support in accessing resources located at our Libraries.

Newcastle City Campus Library
The Library at NUspace on Level 1 houses a dynamic collection of high demand and core items to support the needs of staff and students located at the Newcastle City campus.
After hours
Books can be returned to the library via returns chutes either immediately outside the library on level 1 or on the building's exterior in the courtyard off Hunter Street.
- Study spaces - City Library has two study zones that cater for different noise level preferences; the Law section is a silent space and the rest of the library is a collaborative space. There are desks and casual seats and a balcony area.
- Bookable group study rooms with zoom screens for video calls and screen-sharing.
- Computers and BYOD monitors — students and staff can log on to computers using their student or staff ID and password. Or you can connect your own laptop to a monitor via the USB-C cable provided (which will also charge your device).
- Loanable laptops - students can borrow Windows laptops from the service desk using your student ID card.
- Printing and photocopy facilities

Mobility Parking
Students and staff who hold a RMS Mobility Permit may use Newcastle City Council Accessible Parking in the vicinity of NUSpace. Please refer to the Newcastle City Council website for further information in relation to accessible parking in Newcastle City.

Ourimbah Campus Library
Ourimbah campus library closed at the end of Semester 2 2025. From Semester 1 2026, Ourimbah campus study facilities for students are available in the Science Offices. University Library services are available online and at our other libraries.
Gosford Hospital Library
The Gosford Hospital Library is located on Level 7 in Building A of the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute (CCCSRI) at the Gosford Campus. University of Newcastle staff and students based at, or on clinical placement with, the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) and CCLHD staff are able to use the Library. The Library collection includes medical, nursing and health resources.
- There are both collaborative and quiet study spaces in the Library Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm
- Study spaces are available outside of Library hours on Level 6 in the Student Hub.
- Computers and BYOD monitors — students and staff can log on to computers using their student or staff ID and password. Or you can connect your own laptop to a monitor via the USB-C cable provided (which will also charge your device).
- University PCs and loanable laptops are available in the Student Hub (Level 6) and the Library (Level 7)
- University Wi-Fi is available in the building, including the Library
- Printing and photocopy facilities are available in the Library, managed by UON IT services
- A CCLHD StaffLink account is issued to medical students on clinical placement and allows access to the CCLHD network. StaffLink accounts are monitored and managed by eHealth not the University.
- Food and drink facilities – There is a student kitchen just outside the Library with microwaves, a sink, hot water and vending machines. You can eat and drink in the Library but please be respectful of our spaces and of the needs of other users.
Mobility Parking
The Gosford Hospital has limited car parking facilities. Subject to availability students who do drive, can park in the P2 multi-story carpark accessible from Showground road. Accessible parking spaces are provided on all levels of the multi-storey carpark.

Sydney Campus Library
The Library at Sydney houses a collection of high demand and core items to support the needs of staff and students located at the Sydney Campus.

Lift Access
Students who need regular lift access must apply for a lift permit. For ad-hoc visits to the Sydney Campus, students can call Campus Security for same-day lift access. To apply for a lift permit, students can enquire at the Campus Reception on Level 1. Lifts can be located using our interactive map.
Silent Study Zone
The Sydney Library has a small Silent Study Zone, providing students with a quiet environment to concentrate on their work without distractions.
