Overview

Physiotherapy students studying at the University of Newcastle are able to experience rural clinical placements across Northern NSW and the Mid North Coast.

Placement options

A range of clinical placements are available through the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health. These may include acute medical and surgical, musculoskeletal, neurology, cardiopulmonary or rehabilitation. There is also an exciting range of elective placement options including paediatric, emergency department, community and private practice.

  • Tamworth Hospital
  • Manning Rural Referral Hospital (Taree)
  • Mayo Private Hospital (Taree)
  • Armidale Hospital
  • Moree Hospital
  • Port Macquarie Base Hospital
  • Wingham Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Kempsey District Hospital
  • Wauchope District Memorial Hospital
  • Associated Community Health centres, including TACP and aged care services
  • Local private practices
  • Non-Government organisations

Generally,  the  clinical  units  are  of  five  weeks  duration, however students who are in the final year of the Physiotherapy program may opt to undertake either semester long or year long clinical placements in Tamworth or Taree, attached to the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health.  Subsidised accommodation is available to eligible students, see locations for more information.

Students studying at the Department of Rural Health have the opportunity to attend local CPD and social activities. Students can also participate in Community Engagement activities. For more information on this please contact one of the academics below.
