Enrol
There is no right or wrong way to study Open Foundation. We offer a variety of courses and flexible delivery times to allow you to balance study with other work, social and family commitments.
The program allows you to study 0.5 years full-time (which is 40 units in one semester), or part-time equivalent for up to 4 years (10 units for 4 semesters).
To successfully complete Open Foundation, you need to complete a combined total of 40 units. You can mix and match courses to complete these 40 units.
- Full-time study is enrolling in 30 or 40 units of courses in a semester (complete in 6 - 12 months)
- Part-time study is enrolling in 10 – 20 units of courses in a semester (complete in 12 months – 4 years)
- The number of units you enrol in each term determines whether you are full-time or part-time
- Most courses are 10 units each and the general guideline is that you will need to allow 10 hours per week for study (including class time) for each 10-unit course, but this may depend on the student and the course.
If you need to change your load at any time, get in touch with your Student Liaison Officer who can help.
If you are planning to study a full time load this semester you may be eligible for Centrelink StudyAssist payments.
What study mode is right for you? Check out your options.
Have you studied an Enabling Pathways program before? You could be eligible for up to 30 units of credit for any courses you’ve successfully completed in the past 4 years.
For more information about credit, speak with the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Office.
To see the list of courses available, visit the Program Handbook.
To see what courses are recommended for specific programs, please visit Recommended Courses in the Program Handbook.
You can only enrol in courses which all begin with “EP”, e.g EP MATH109.
If you're not sure of what degree you would like to study, you can choose a variety of courses to explore different areas of interest, or you can just choose courses that you think you will do well in.
Whichever combination of courses you choose, you will gain the study and academic skills required to move into a Degree program upon completion of Open Foundation.
Before finalising your course selections, make sure the course is available at your preferred campus and is offered in the right semester. The Advanced Course Filter in the Program Handbook can help you search.
- The timetable for on campus courses will be available to view in your handbook from bit.ly/3xaCBBe
- If you’d like some tips on how to read the timetable, view the guide here.
- The Timetable is subject to change, so please continue to check it before selecting your classes, and before you commence your studies.
Keep these things in mind when choosing your 40 units:
- What courses have content that will interest you?
- What courses do you think you’ll do well in?
- What study areas do you want to try out before deciding on a degree?
Here’s how to add your courses in myHub:
Here’s a step-by-step guide on enrolling in myHub.
Now that you know what you’re studying this term, you need to know when to come to class – this step will confirm your class timetable.
You must have added your courses (subjects) in myHub before doing this step.
If you’ve only just added your courses, you should wait about 30 minutes before trying to select your classes.
Here’s how to select your class times.
