BUSN3004 - Career-ready Industry-Led Project

BUSN3004 gives you the opportunity to work in small groups to tackle real business challenges provided by industry partners. You’ll apply your learning, develop analytical and professional skills, and gain exposure to industry expectations.
The course includes hands-on project work, expert-led workshops, career-development sessions, mentoring, and site visits. Each project accommodates up to 30 students, with groups typically made up of 4–6 members.
How to apply
Students apply for BUSN3004 through the standard course enrolment process in myHub. Project groups and topics are allocated by the course team prior to commencement.

Pathway 1: Internal Project Labs
Students work in small groups to tackle real business challenges provided by our industry partners. Throughout the course, you’ll engage in hands-on project work supported by expert-led workshops, mentoring sessions, and site visits. Each group typically consists of 4–6 students, creating a collaborative environment that fosters problem-solving and professional skill development.
How to Apply
- Enrol in BUSN3004 through myHub
- Project groups and topics are allocated by the course team prior to commencement
Pathway 2: External Labs and Clinics
This stream offers a more traditional placement experience, similar to BUSN3002, but under BUSN3004 in Semester 1. Students work individually with external labs or clinics to gain practical, real-world experience in specialised business environments. These opportunities are only available through existing industry partners who have elected to host students as part of BUSN3004, and they are advertised exclusively on CareerHub.
How to Apply
- Log in to CareerHub using your Student ID
- Search for “External Labs and Clinics” under Jobs
- Submit your application (resume, cover letter, and any requested documents)
- Monitor your email for updates—some roles may require interviews
- If successful, notify the Business School at workplacement-nbs@newcastle.edu.au so it can be logged in SONIA
- Complete all SONIA requirements before commencing
