BUSN3002 – Industry Placement
Offered in: Semester 2, 2026
BUSN3002 is a 140-hour supervised industry placement that allows you to apply your learning in a real business environment. Students work with private businesses, government, not-for-profits, SMEs, and start-ups in roles aligned to their area of study. This course builds confidence, develops professional capability, and helps you stand out in a competitive job market.
Pathway 1: Apply for a Placement Through CareerHub
This pathway lets you apply for approved placement roles advertised by the Business School.
How to apply
- Log in to CareerHub using your Student ID.
- Search for “BUSN3002” under Jobs to find approved placement opportunities.
- Submit your application (resume, cover letter, and any requested documents).
- Monitor your email for updates—some roles require interviews or additional steps.
- If you secure a placement, notify the Business School immediately at workplacement-nbs@newcastle.edu.au so it can be logged in SONIA.
- Once confirmed, complete all SONIA requirements before commencing your placement.
Pathway 2: Use Your Current Employer
Students currently employed may complete their placement with their employer, provided the tasks are different from normal duties and align with the student’s specialisation.
How to apply
- Email workplacement-nbs@newcastle.edu.au with:
– Organisation name
– Supervisor contact and email
– A brief description of proposed duties and their link to your specialisation - The NBS Director of Work Integrated Learning will assess whether the proposed work qualifies.
Pathway 3: Arrange a Placement with a New Industry Partner
This option allows you to source your own host organisation, provided the role aligns with your degree and specialisation.
How to apply
1. Identify a suitable host organisation.
2. Email workplacement-nbs@newcastle.edu.au with:
– Host contact name
– Host website
– Specialisation targeted
– Your name and student number
– A short (100-word) description of your desired role and goals
3. Await formal approval. Do not contact the host until you receive the host pack.
4. Once approved, follow the instructions provided in the host pack to proceed.
