Establishment
The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) – TRaCE Scholarship has been established to support industry-engaged student learning within the recycling and energy sectors. Building upon the TRaCE Business Case, this initiative addresses barriers to recycling and energy sector-related WIL participation.
To apply, please submit the TRaCE WIL Scholarship Application along with your supporting documents.
Applications will remain open till all scholarships are filled, however it is recommended that you apply before the census date of the term in which you are participating in your placement.

.Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Be enrolled in any year of any undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Newcastle.
- Be enrolled in a course with a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component in the term of scholarship award.
- Be enrolled either full-time or part-time.
- Be participating in a placement with an industry partner undertaking a project related to one or more of the TRaCE Research themes: 1: Next generation solar PV & systems– projects that accelerate integration & scale of solar technologies or 2: Electrification, energy systems and storage – projects that drive manufacturing in industry or 3: Sustainable fuels and chemicals manufacturing – projects that commercialise green fuels and chemicals. or 4: Recycling, reforming and reuse of materials – projects for recycling, reforming and reuse of waste materials related to energy applications and/or sectors.
- This scholarship is open to both domestic (Australian/New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents) and international students.
- Not have previously received this scholarship.
Required Documentation
Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.
A statement of approximately 300 words explaining how your WIL placement relates to the themes of Recycling and Clean Energy. There is a question relating to this within the application form.
A copy of the completed Industrial Experience/Career-ready Placement Application as evidence of how your WIL placement and project relates to the themes of recycling and clean energy. This will need to be uploaded before submitting the application form
Benefit
The scholarship provides a total benefit of $4,000, paid as a lump sum in the semester or trimester of award.
Payment is typically received 2–3 weeks after the relevant semester or trimester census date, or 2–3 weeks after you accept your offer if the census date has already passed.
Selection
Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria.
Selection will be made by the TRaCE Selection Panel.
