Western Earthmoving Scholarship for Construction and Engineering will support students in the Engineering and Construction disciplines and engage students to deepen their understanding and experience of the work of Western Earthmoving Pty Ltd and its impact in the region.
In addition to the scholarship, successful recipients will also be offered the opportunity of paid placement with WEM.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Be enrolled in any year of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) (Honours) degree program with University of Newcastle.
- Be enrolled full-time.
- Demonstrate academic achievement either by an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent of 90 or higher (adjustment factors included) for commencing students or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or higher for continuing students.
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (includes New Zealand Permanent Residents).
- Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.
Required Documentation
Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.
- A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
- The application will include a free text question asking you to outline your interest in associated future opportunities with this donor and/or Industry partner.
Benefit
This scholarship is an annual scholarship for a period of 1 year. The scholarship must be taken up in the year for which it is awarded.
The scholarship provides a total benefit of $15,000. The scholarship will be paid as $7500 each semester after the relevant census dates, usually in April and September.
Selection
Selection will be made by the College of Engineering, Science and Environment Selection Panel which will consist of a minimum of three members chosen by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, College of Engineering, Science and Environment. A representative from Western Earthmoving Pty Ltd will be invited to join the selection panel for this scholarship.
The Selection Panel will communicate the details of successful recipients to the delegated Scholarships Officer, and all applicants will be notified of an outcome via email. This will occur within 6 weeks of the scholarship close date.
