Establishment
This scholarship was established to provide support for students outside the Hunter and Central Coast regions to relocate to Newcastle and study eligible programs within the College of Engineering, Science and Environment (CESE).
This scholarship application is open now to Year 12 students who receive an offer to a program with the College of Engineering, Science and Environment to start study in 2024.
Successful applicants who have applied for and accepted on-campus accommodation with Student Living will receive a contribution of $3000 toward this in addition to the scholarship payment of $1000 each semester.
The guaranteed on-campus accommodation is for applicants who applied by 04 January. Later applicants will be given preference for available places.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Have received an early offer of admission or be applying for an undergraduate program with the College of Engineering, Science and Environment offered at Callaghan Campus in our main School Leaver offer round (UAC December Round 2).
- Be a Year 12 School Leaver, having completed secondary school in the year prior to commencing your degree.
- Be relocating to Newcastle from a region outside of the Hunter and Central Coast regions. Refer to excluded postcodes under 'Selection'.
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (includes New Zealand Permanent Residents).
- Award of the scholarship will be conditional on fulltime enrolment (30 units each semester) in an eligible program for students who receive an Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank (ATAR) of 85 or higher.
Required Documentation
Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.
- A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
Benefit
The scholarship is for a term of 2 years and must be taken up in the year it is awarded.
The scholarship provides access to guaranteed on-campus accommodation (if applying by the cut-off and accepting an offer with Student Living) and a total financial benefit of $10,000 ($5000 each year).
The scholarship will be paid as:
- A $3,000 contribution toward accommodation, payable directly to on-campus accommodation each year for two years (if accepting an offer with Student Living).
- A payment to the scholarship recipient of $1000 following the semester 1 and 2 census dates (usually in April and September) each year for two years.
Selection
Applicants for the Scholarship must complete and submit the relevant scholarship application online.
Applications will be assessed against the eligibility criteria and selection will be based on academic merit, namely Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), and postcode of home address in the year prior to admission. Where applicable, available scholarships will be allocated across 3 target areas:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- Low Socio-Economic Status
- Rural and Remote.
Selection excludes the following postcodes:
Scholars receiving this scholarship remain eligible for the CESE High Achiever, CESE Gender Equity, and CESE Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Scholarships.
