Dr Donna McNamara

Dr Donna McNamara has conducted extensive research into the policies and legal frameworks governing individuals with disabilities within society with a focus on Ireland. Her 2021 publication, Policing in the Age of the Asylum: Early Legislative Interventions in the Lives of Persons with Disabilities? traces the key legislative interventions in the lives of persons with disabilities in Ireland and argues that police have played a historically important role in the control and confinement of deviant persons, yet little is known about the extent to which they were involved in the removal of individuals to institutions such as asylums and workhouses. This journal article is published in the Disability Studies Quarterly, where it can be accessed by researchers and students globally.
