Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of NSW, delivered the keynote address on social justice and the principles of fairness and access to justice. She referred to the importance of adequate funding of legal aid services and the funding of support services in rural communities. The Governor challenged law students to serve disadvantaged communities and uphold the principles of fairness and social justice.
'What there should never be, is any discrepancy in fairness, never any discrepancy in the way people have access to a basic comfort in life and basic standard of living.'
"That is why social justice should be at the heart, not only of the legal philosophy, but at the social heart of every institution, and the way every educated person then serves the community.'
