Our vision
Our vision is to be a creative, diverse and responsible world leader in materials science and engineering.
We aim to solve global issues by developing fundamental understanding, ground-breaking technologies and solutions through innovation, intelligence and collaboration with national and international academic and industry groups.

- From 2018 - 2025, GICAN received nearly $20 million AUD in funding from industry and government.- Industry: ~ $16 million

Impact:
- GICAN is proud to have three DECRA Fellows and one Future Fellow on our staff
- Since 2018, our researchers and students have published more than 280 journal articles in top international journals, more than 15 of which had cover page features
- Our Centre has filed more than 10 patents
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
