Reports

Behind every safer construction site is evidence demonstrating what works and what doesn’t. That’s what our reports provide—clear, research-driven insights written for decision-makers responsible for health, safety, and well-being in construction. By partnering with industry leaders, government agencies, and global research teams, these reports address the real challenges faced by today’s worksites. You’ll find analysis of incident data, assessments of training programs, reviews of safety leadership practices, and guidance on emerging risks such as psychosocial hazards or automation technologies. Each report brings academic research out of the classroom and into the hands of site managers, safety officers, and policymakers who need practical solutions, not just theory. We also include findings from enforceable undertakings, pilot projects, and collaborative trials so others can learn what succeeded, what fell short, and why. Designed for sharing across organisations, these reports help set benchmarks, shape safety strategies, and guide training at all levels of the industry. For educators and students, they also serve as real-world case studies, connecting classroom knowledge to practical, on-site applications. Whether aiming to improve worker wellbeing or minimise critical risks, this growing collection offers tools, evidence, and lessons to promote positive change throughout the sector.

Report: Developing a Health and Safety Maturity Framework for Small Construction Businesses: An Interventional Study

This report investigates workplace health and safety (WHS) challenges in Australia’s small construction businesses, which experience high injury rates despite existing regulations. Using an integrative review of 144 studies, it examines internal factors such as leadership commitment, safety culture, and worker behaviour, alongside external influences like regulation and industry support. The report identifies gaps in current WHS interventions and suggests developing a Health and Safety Maturity Framework tailored for small businesses. This framework would offer practical, step-by-step guidance to improve WHS systems, boost compliance, and enhance safety outcomes in businesses with limited resources.
