Guiding Futures: The role of teachers in the formation of students' aspirations for higher education

This project aims to investigate the impact of teachers (and other educators working in schools) on students' aspirations for higher education. This project will provide insight into the explicit and implicit messages students glean from their teachers about their aspirations for higher education and ways of getting there.

The project will provide new evidence of how teachers guide the aspirations of school students (Year 3 to Year 12) for higher education, and recommend innovative and targeted approaches to university outreach involving teachers.

Guiding Futures was awarded a $90,295 HEPP NPP Grant and is led by Professor Jenny Gore along with a team of researchers at the University of Newcastle including Professor Max Smith and Dr Adam Lloyd.
