Zero Hunger

        Sustainable Food Purchases
The University of Newcastle prioritises the purchase of products from local and sustainable sources. In accordance with Section 7, Clause 16 of the University's Procurement Policy, preference is given — where practical — to products that are sustainably and ethically produced, locally sourced goods and services, and carbon-neutral options.
The University also favours suppliers who demonstrate efforts to minimise energy use and environmental impact, offer end-of-life stewardship programs, and maintain a strong track record in environmental and social sustainability. This approach reflects the University's broader commitment to responsible procurement and sustainable operational practices.
This policy was effective from the 15th of September 2023 and was reviewed in March 2025.
