        Disability Accommodation Policy
In 2024, the University of Newcastle had a clearly defined and actively implemented reasonable accommodation policy to support students with disability across academic, physical, and social domains.
The University's Supporting Students with a Disability Policy sets out the institutional commitment to ensuring that students with disability are not disadvantaged in their access to education. The policy outlines the University's obligation to:
- Take reasonable steps to ensure equal participation in all aspects of university life
- Make appropriate adjustments to learning, assessment, and campus access
- Promote an inclusive culture that supports the dignity, autonomy, and full participation of students with disability
- Ensure that reasonable adjustments are made without imposing unjustifiable hardship
These principles are supported by institutional mechanisms, including:
- The AccessAbility support team, which coordinates the implementation of Learning Access Plans (LAPs)
- Funded support services such as assistive technologies, learning support, and physical access adjustments
- Continuous review and refinement of services in accordance with feedback and legislative requirements
Evidence of the University's ongoing funding and implementation of accommodations is further outlined in sections 10.6.7, 10.6.8, and 10.6.9 of supporting institutional documentation. This policy was effective from the 25th of June 2018 and will be reviewed in late 2025.
