Childcare Facilities for Staff and Faculty
At the University of Newcastle, we are proud to support our staff and faculty through access to high-quality childcare facilities across our campuses. We recognise that reliable and accessible childcare is essential for our people to thrive in both their professional and personal lives.
We currently operate:
- Three childcare centres on our Callaghan campus
- One childcare centre at our Ourimbah campus
These centres are available to both staff and students, providing affordable, flexible, and high-standard care options to meet the needs of our diverse university community.
In addition to our childcare facilities, we offer a range of parent-friendly amenities, including:
- Parent Rooms for breastfeeding, changing nappies, and heating bottles
- Carers and Kids Rooms in our University Libraries, allowing staff to supervise children in a study-friendly environment
- Designated spaces for breastfeeding, expressing, and storing milk across our campuses
As an accredited Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace by the Australian Breastfeeding Association, we ensure our facilities and policies uphold the dignity, privacy, and wellbeing of working parents.
Our commitment is also embedded in our 2024 Balancing Family / Carer Responsibilities with Work and Study Policy, which promotes a flexible and inclusive environment for those with parenting or carer responsibilities. This policy was effective from the 23rd of May 2023 and will be reviewed on the 23rd of May 2026.
In 2024, we continued our commitment to creating a workplace where parenthood and professional achievement go hand in hand. And we will continue to do so.
