Power and the passion: part one
No economy anywhere in the world is safe if we are dependent upon one industry, no matter what the industry.
If the mine closes, so does the local cafe, so does the uniform manufacturer, it affects them all, the trucks that are supplied to the industry, the tyres, the whole supply chain ... that's why we often talk about diversifying the economy.
Professor Roberta Ryan from the University of Newcastle's Hunter Research Foundation (HRF) Centre has contributed to 'Power and the passion', an important new series by the Newcastle Herald examining the future of Newcastle's coal industry in the context of renewable energy transition.
