The Law Collection has also been moved to the silent study area from it's previous home on Level 3.

A new installation of artwork recently purchased for the University Art Collection is now available to view in the Flowers Room as well. This suite of 10 vinyl block prints were created by artist Teho Ropeyarn and are titled Utku an Alarrakudhi (2015).

Teho Ropeyarn is an artist and curator from Injinoo, Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. Born in Mount Isa in 1988, he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts (UNSW) in Sydney and is currently based in Cairns, Queensland. Ropeyarn was a finalist in the 2012 Wollotuka Acquisitive Art Prize with his work titled Angkamuthi - this work is now part of the University Art Collection.

For this artwork, Teho Ropeyarn states ‘this artwork is my interpretation recreating chapters of this story told to me by our cultural teacher Late Gordon Pablo. The story is the property of my people. Utku (Emu) and Alarrakudhi (Brolga) image begins with the yam and yam vine, sun, moon, and star. The yam vine carries the story and flows through each individual piece highlighting each event that took place. The story features two families, the mother emu and her crazy wild, bad children and mother brolga and her children were good children that listened. Every morning the two mothers would grab their dilly bags, and everyone would go looking around for food in the bush, especially yam, and bring their dilly bags back to the camp, make fire, and cook and eat.’

These beautiful prints are proudly displayed in the newly renovated Flowers Room.
