This week, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, will visit South Korea, a major regional hub for research and innovation.

VC meets South Korea’s top universities

With a view to building global partnerships across education and research, Caroline will meet with leaders from a number of South Korea's top universities, including Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). In 2014, the Times Higher Education (THE) global university rankings of the top "100 Under 50" years old ranked POSTECH number 1 in the world.

In many ways a mirror to Newcastle, POSTECH's home base of Pohang is a port city built on a history of steel production. With a population of approximately 500,000, Pohang has an eye to the future, diversifying its industrial base to encompass environmentalism and advanced learning, as well as arts and culture.

With POSTECH's strengths in science, technology and engineering, discussions will focus on exploring potential opportunities for student and staff mobility and research partnerships.
