Students encouraged to apply for University of Newcastle’s Early Entry program
The University of Newcastle is reminding Year 12 students to submit their Early Entry application before midnight on Thursday to receive an offer in the first round of early entry offers.
Early Entry allows students who are completing the HSC to gain entry to a wide range of the University’s undergraduate degrees before they sit their final exams, based on their high school results to date.
University of Newcastle’s Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Belinda Tynan said Early Entry is a great avenue for people to gain entry to university and ease some of the pressure on students so they can focus on their studies.
“We’ve offered Early Entry for two years now, and we have seen that students who come through this pathway are performing just as well as those who enter through other avenues,” Professor Tynan said.
“We know exams work well for some students, but for others, they’re not always the best measure of ability. Our Early Entry program helps level the playing field and ensures more students have the opportunity to achieve success at university.”
Ruby Bush is in her second year of university and explained how early entry helped to take the pressure off her exams.
“I applied through the Early Entry program because I thought it would relieve some pressure and it definitely did.
“When I first received an offer, it felt like a big weight had been lifted off my shoulders and although I still studied hard for my exams, I felt a lot more secure knowing I had a pathway into university.
“If you’re an HSC student looking to apply for Early Entry I’d say go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose.”
Applications close at 11:59am on Thursday, 4 September 2025.
