Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle graduates with a tick of approval
Thursday, 5 April 2018
Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Declan Clausen graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) (Honours) today.
As the youngest candidate ever elected to Newcastle City Council, Declan will have another achievement to add to the list when he graduates with First Class Honours.
Declan’s passion for the environment began at a young age and continued to develop throughout high school after an inspiring teacher encouraged him to become more involved in scientific programs.
Through his role as the Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Declan is looking forward to applying the knowledge and skills he gained during his studies to bring about positive outcomes for the community.
“Having worked full time whilst completing my studies, my experience at the University of Newcastle was an excellent opportunity to combine theory with practice. In addition to formal studies, I have learned a great deal about how to deliver meaningful change in business and government.”
Declan enriched his university experience with extracurricular opportunities as a member of the University Committee for Environmental Sustainability (UCES) and a student ambassador for Engineering.
“I have enjoyed being involved in campus life and the opportunity to meet and work with an amazing diversity of people along the way. Newcastle is greatly improved by the presence of an outward focused university that is passionate about delivering for our region”.
Declan graduated from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at a ceremony on Thursday 5 April at 10am.
