A funding boost of almost $500,000 from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), is set to combat the rates of depression and anxiety among elderly Australians.

The Teaching innovation investment Scheme (TI2) enables our university teachers to innovate for the benefit of student success.  These investments seed funding for both innovative teaching activities and the creation of learning objects, as well as action research and evaluation into the success of effective teaching initiatives.

Two outstanding mid-career researchers from the University of Newcastle have received almost $2 million in Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowships to advance their research discoveries in the fields of microbiology and the humanities.

On 28 July 2018, Engineering students in Singapore - Aswin Ramakutty Nair (Electrical Engineering) and Navendu Dubey (Mechanical Engineering) secured the 2nd position in National Engineers Day (NED) - Energy Innovation Challenge 2018, held at Suntec City Convention Centre. This is an improved rating from the 3rd position which the UON Singapore team won in 2016.

University of Newcastle's Centre for Water, Climate and Land was successful in securing funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) for a Discovery Project to investigate how floods have varied over the past 2000 years and what effect they could have on Australia in the future.
