Strengthening Food Industry Innovation on the Central Coast
Regional Development Australia Central Coast in partnership with Central Coast Industry Connect and the University of Newcastle, will launch the Central Coast Food Innovation Region Initiative, at a Food Futures Central Coast Industry Forum this week.
Aimed at growing the local food industry, creating new jobs and building sustainable business competitiveness in the region, the initiative connects key University research strengths with government and industry.
Executive Director of the University’s Global Impact Cluster for Energy, Resources, Food & Water and Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) Professor Alan Broadfoot said the initiative would help to translate research into tangible outcomes in the region and beyond.
“We are excited about connecting researchers across multiple disciplines with government and other experts in the Central Coast food and agribusiness industry to generate innovative ideas and new opportunities,” said Professor Broadfoot.
The Food Futures Forum represented the next step in strengthening collaboration between partner organisations and gaining a more holistic understanding of industry priorities within the sector.
“The Forum provides a valuable opportunity to hear from industry stakeholders to identify strategic research and education opportunities which will advance competitiveness, trade and jobs growth for the industry,” said Professor Broadfoot.
The Food Futures Central Coast Industry Forum, held at the Mingara Recreation Club on Thursday 26 April, will include the official launch of the Food Innovation Region Initiative, followed by a panel discussion with business, industry and government experts exploring a number of key focus areas and capacity building initiatives for the food and agribusiness industry.
