Applications to study Open Foundation in Semester 2 are now now open!

When do Semester 2 Classes start?

Semester 2, 2020 begins on Monday 20 July.

Why do I have to select a campus? Aren't all classes delivered online due to COVID-19?

Kind of! There are two modes of delivery for Semester 2 Open Foundation this year. While you will NOT need to physically attend a campus to study this year, it was necessary for us to differentiate between the two different modes of study depending on your enrolment choice.

Study from Home (previously On-Campus)

If you’re planning on completing Open Foundation this year, we recommend you select the ‘On-Campus’ option when applying (and then later enrolling in 2 x 20 unit ‘study from home’ courses. Simply select the campus location that is closest to you when applying – don’t worry, you’ll still be undertaking your studies remotely and will get more information on this shortly.

Online

Our suite of 10 Unit courses are available through the existing ‘Online’ mode of delivery. Select this if you plan to study part-time in Semester 2.

Confusing? Perhaps a little! If you have questions, we’d love to help clarify anything before you submit your application – just shoot us an email at enabling@newcastle.edu.au.

How many courses (subjects) should I take?

This depends if you want to study full time or part time.

Full time (40 units) – We recommend you enrol in two x 20 Unit Courses. When applying, please select ‘On-Campus’ as your mode of study and select your nearest university campus.

Part time (10 or 20 units) – We recommend you enrol in one or two x 10 Unit Courses. When applying, please select ‘Online’ as your mode of study.

What courses (subjects) are available?

Please see which courses are available to study in Open Foundation here.

When can I enrol?

While you can submit your application to the Open Foundation program right now, enrolment in courses (subjects) will not open until the 27 May (Date TBC). Don’t worry, we will send you all the info you need (and more) closer to this date to ensure you’re prepared.

I don’t have the ability to study from home – can I still do Open Foundation?

Yes, at this stage the university will still have many on-campus facilities available to help students study. This means you can come to a study space or library on campus if you need a separate space to watch your lectures, stream online classes or work on assessments.

What happens if I can’t attend Orientation?

No problem. At this stage, Orientation activities will be moved online to a digital platform ensuring you get a thorough introduction to all University systems, services, and support - all from the safety and comfort of your home.
