2026 Newcastle Music Festival: Weddings and Parties Over Coffee

Bach Akademie Australia in this, their eighth year, continue their journey exploring the profundity, originality and joy of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music.
They return to Newcastle with award-winning Australian soprano Miriam Allan, who has achieved international fame, performing as soloist with leading ensembles including Les Arts Florissants, English Baroque Soloists and Concerto Copenhagen, and singing at the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Miriam returns home for this very special program featuring Bach’s poignant and heartwarming Wedding Cantata together with his Coffee Cantata, a miniature comic opera about a disgruntled father and his coffee-obsessed daughter. Miriam will perform alongside her own father, Australian baritone Christopher Allan.

About the Newcastle Music Festival
The Newcastle Music Festival returns for its ninth season in 2026, having been inaugurated in 2016, and missing festivals in 2020 and 2021. The Festival was founded by its first Artistic Directors, David Banney and Ross Fiddes with music ranging from classical to jazz, and from world music to contemporary music.
Our artists have included the best musicians of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, as well as outstanding national and international performers. In addition, the Festival has given performance opportunities to hundreds of community musicians through the Festival Choir and Festival Strings, and masterclasses.
