Jazz and Groove Improv - Two Day Workshop
Close-up of several seated musicians in warm stage lighting playing saxophones and a clarinet, with shiny brass instruments and a music stand visible in the foreground.
Don't miss this inspiring and interactive 2-day workshop designed to unlock your creativity and build your confidence in improvisation. Explore motifs, melodies, and easy-to-follow chord progressions inspired by jazz and groove-based styles, while learning practical tools you can immediately apply to your instrument or voice.
Guided by experienced mentors and Conservatorium of Music teachers Jeremy Borthwick and Steph Russell, you’ll develop spontaneity, musical freedom, and the confidence to create in the moment — all in a supportive and fun environment.
Open to community members and students aged 15+, this workshop welcomes instrumentalists and vocalists of all backgrounds. No prior improvisation experience is needed — just solid instrumental skills, curiosity, and enthusiasm to dive in and have a go.
To top it all off, put your new skills into action at the Jazz Jam at NIMA on the evening of the first day, hosted by Jeremy and the house band — the perfect chance to try out your new chops! (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
