Festival Voices Newcastle: Appear and Inspire
Soft-focus abstract image of dew-covered spiderweb strands and shimmering circular light reflections in pale green and gold tones.
Our programme for this concert is inspired by St Cecilia, the patron saint of music (whose traditional feastday is 22 November).
We will be presenting music inspired by love- love of music; the exhilaration, delights- and pangs- of romantic love; of friendship; and of the wonder that is life itself.
The centrepiece of our concert is Benjamin Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia:
Blessed Cecilia, appear in visions
To all musicians, appear and inspire:
Translated Daughter, come down and startle
Composing mortals with immortal fire!
And speaking of inspiring, our great friend Erin Sweetman will also be joining us once again. We are looking forward enormously to her solo contributions to the programme as well as to working with her.
