Startup Stories - Matthew Barry (Actified)

This event was held on Wednesday 8 April 2020

Matthew Barry

It was in 2015 that Matt and his two cofounders saw a gap in the financial commissions processing and licensee management space. The three founded WiSecure and set up shop in Sydney to develop their platform to automate the onboarding, comms, reporting and commissions processing for both ACL’s and AFSL’s.

The fintech closed deals with some of Sydney’s largest dealer groups and mortgage aggregators in the city and across three States. Building on their successes, WiSecure bootstrapped their headcount to seven and when the Australian Royal Commission into banking began, committed to capitalising on the opportunity to develop greater solutions for their customers. Unfortunately, the inquiry revealed itself to be a near fatal blow to the company, leading the team to sell to an international financial services and tech company.

After exiting WiSecure Matt has gone on to found his current venture, Actified, a web development and solutions company. Based out of UON’s I2N Hub Hunter Street, he’s translating his vast learnings into practice and building product from a brand-new city.

Join us for this month’s Startup Stories and hear how this serial entrepreneur navigated a tumultuous financial services sector into an exit, then founded his next company, Actified, on the other side.

Event is free but registrations essential - book here.
