Startup Stories - Joss Kesby (Diffuse Energy)

This event was held on Thursday 30 August 2018

Koss Kesby

A civil engineer tired of building coal infrastructure, Joss Kesby chose instead to follow his passion for renewable energy and complete his PhD in mechanical engineering. Not an easy feat, but upon convincing UON’s head of mechanical engineering to take him on, he set his sights to developing a wind turbine that has twice the average power output with the added benefit of being quieter and safer. And so Diffuse Energy was born.

Joss, along with his two cofounders, Sam Evans and James Bradley, founded Diffuse and undertook CSIRO’s ON Prime pre-accelerator program to explore the commercial opportunities of his research. Acceptance into the ON Accelerate program – Australia’s national science and technology accelerator – soon followed, and were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas to industry, potential investors and stakeholders across the country.

Having validated their underlying business model, Joss was recognised as the founder who displayed the most ‘entrepreneurial capacity’ during ON Accelerate and received the inaugural Stanford Australia Foundation – CSIRO scholarship, to study at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Join us at I2N Hub Hunter Street for Joss’ incredible story so far, and what the future holds for this bright startup.

Event is free but bookings essential - book here.

About Startup Stories

Startup Stories takes place every Thursday from 8am at the University of Newcastle's coworking space I2N Hub Hunter Street. Startup founders talk candidly about their experience as an entrepreneur and business owner – the highs, the lows, the wins, the mistakes, the whole enchilada. Startup Stories provides real-life examples of the different stages of the startup journey, creating a forum for startups to share and learn but also for the community to see tangible evidence of entrepreneurship making a difference in our region. #i2nStartupStories
