Startup Stories - Cheryl Pollock (ChezLeon)

This event was held on Thursday 20 September 2018

CherylPollock

At 64, Cheryl Pollock never expected to be a medical entrepreneur on the cusp of taking her game-changing product to the world. Her entrepreneurial journey began in 2009 when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and as a result, underwent a total hysterectomy. She was advised to wear compression bandages, but frustration set in when Cheryl was unable to source any that suited her condition and that could fit across multiple parts of the body. Soon after, Cheryl founded ChezLeon, a passive massage wear she designed to help those suffering lymphedema or edema – a condtion which affects 45 million people globally.

Seven years later, Cheryl has developed a bra insert that discreetly massages the body and may assist breast cancer patients but also those with all types of cancer, lymphoedema and edema. ChezLeon holds patents in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Europe, with the UK and the US in the pipeline.

With her product and patents in place, Cheryl is looking to take ChezLeon to the global market. Join us at I2N Hub Hunter Street to hear this inspirational story of life-threatening challenge and the vision to overcome.

Event is free but bookings essential - book here.

About Startup Stories

Startup Stories takes place every Thursday from 8am at the University of Newcastle's coworking space I2N Hub Hunter Street. Startup founders talk candidly about their experience as an entrepreneur and business owner – the highs, the lows, the wins, the mistakes, the whole enchilada. Startup Stories provides real-life examples of the different stages of the startup journey, creating a forum for startups to share and learn but also for the community to see tangible evidence of entrepreneurship making a difference in our region. #i2nStartupStories
