Why Do Scientists Cheat: Mass Hysteria, Conspiracies about Plagiarism, and Fabrication of Results.

This event was held on Monday 20 March 2023

Join Fulbright Distinguished Chair Professor Bob Camley from the Department of Physics, University of Colorado for a not-so-serious look at some famous examples of cheating and unethical behaviour in Physics.

Join us from 5 pm for light refreshments followed by a lively discussion and then a q+a with Bob’s University of Newcastle host, Dr. Karen Livesey.

About this event

This includes the famous calculus dispute involving Leibnitz and Newton, the Great N-Ray Hoax, and some more recent examples. Finally, hear a short discussion of how serious cheating is in reality and how it differs across scientific disciplines.

Professor Bob Camley is currently in Australia for a six-month stint to work with Dr Karen Livesey from the Department of Information and Physical Sciences (physics) on a theoretical physics project exploring the use of magnetic nanomaterials in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
