Youth Forum Right to a Healthy Environment
Youth Forum Right to Education 2022
On Wednesday 8 November, we will host a youth forum on the right to a healthy environment for students across the Newcastle, Hunter and Lake Macquarie region.
Young people are on the front lines of environmental advocacy around the world, including campaigns for climate justice in Australia. Our forum will provide an opportunity for school students to learn about the right to a healthy environment, and to share their perspectives on how this right ought to be promoted and protected for their futures.
In the final session, all participants will work together to develop a ‘Newcastle Statement on the Right to a Healthy Environment’. The Centre will publish this statement online and distribute copies to participants, their schools, education authorities and policy makers to convey the perspectives of young people.
The Centre for Law and Social Justice is a proud member of the Human Rights for New South Wales Alliance. This Alliance brings together community and legal organisations to campaign for legislation to protect the rights of people in NSW, including the right of young people to a healthy environment. Human rights legislation already exists in other Australian jurisdictions, and a national Charter of Rights campaign is also underway.
