The Uluru Statement from the Heart: Student Information Session

This event was held on Monday 15 May 2023

The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation to the Australian people from First Nations Australians. It asks Australians to walk together to build a better future by establishing a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution, and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty making and truth-telling.

Join the Centre for Law and Social Justice, to learn more about the background and context to Constitutional recognition, the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and the Voice to Parliament. There will be an opportunity for questions following the session.

The session will be led by Kishaya Delaney, a proud Wiradjuri woman who graduated from Newcastle Law School in 2020. Kishaya is currently a Solicitor in the Pro Bono team at Herbert Smith Freehills and previously worked as a Project Officer for Towards Truth, leading a team of researchers to develop a legislation and policy mapping database, to support truth-telling under the third reform of the Uluru Statement of the Heart. As a member of the Uluru Statement Youth Dialogue, Kishaya regularly delivers presentations and facilitates sessions about the Uluru Statement from the Heart and Voice to Parliament.
