Professor Geoff Whitty Seminar
(How) can the achievement and participation gap be closed? Some evidence from England
Recent UK governments have set out to 'narrow' or even 'close' socio-economic achievement and participation gaps at school and university.
Professor Whitty will outline what progress they have made in narrowing these gaps over the past fifteen years and what policies seem to have made a difference (either ostensibly or substantively).
This will inform a discussion of the implications of such evidence for future policies in England and Australia.
Please register your attendance by Monday August 17.
Professor Geoff Whitty is Co-Director of the Centre of Excellence for Equity in higher Education and holds a Global Innovation Chair for Equity in Higher Education at the University of Newcastle.
