Breathing Control in Asthma
CRE in Severe Asthma Webinar
Achieving symptom control in asthma can be difficult. This can be associated with poor breathing control or upper airway dysfunction. This seminar will focus on effective management approaches for patients with poor breathing control and or upper airway dysfunction. International and national researchers will present the latest research in this area.
2:00 - 3:00pm Professor Mike Thomas, PhD FRCP (University of Southampton) will present his work on breathing exercises and the development of breathing training programmes, mechanisms of action, modes of delivery and future research needs. He will focus on the real world scenarios of who, when and how to use breathing exercises for asthma.
3:00 - 3:30pm Light refreshments will be served.

Speech pathology management of paradoxical vocal
fold movement in asthma.

Professor Helen Reddel (University of Sydney)
How to design and interpret studies of non-pharmacological interventions for asthma.

This webinar and seminar will be of interest to respiratory clinicians and researchers including physicians, speech pathologist, physiotherapists, nurses and asthma educators.
About Professor
Mike Thomas, PhD FRCP

Mike holds the Chair of Primary Care Research at the University of Southampton, UK, an institution with an international profile in respiratory research, and leads the community-based respiratory research programme.
His research interests centre on respiratory disease management in community settings, including the diagnosis and management of asthma and COPD and the assessment of effectiveness of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies in every-day clinical settings. He has a particular interest in 'real-world' outcomes and pragmatic clinical research, and has published and lectured widely on these topics.
