Ideas Collider - Save the world in 60 minutes (Hunter Street)

This event was held on Tuesday 11 September 2018

Ideas Collider | You have 60 minutes to save the world

To have a great idea you have to have a lot of them –Thomas Edison

Hackathons, Solvathons, Hackfests are all the rage these days but what are they? Can you enter them if you aren’t a programmer? What skills can you bring to the table if you don’t know how to code? Well if you are curious about innovation, entrepreneurship and hackathons but not sure if it’s the right thing for you, then come along to I2N Hub Hunter Street's Ideas Collider!

This event provides you with the opportunity to work with diverse teams, build communication, problem-solving and presentation skills in a fun and judgement free environment. It is the perfect chance to learn about the world of hackathons without having to give up an entire weekend and the best part is (like hackathons) you don’t need to have any specific skills to enter!

At Ideas Collider we bring together students (undergradate and postgraduate), researchers, health sector workers and community, split you into mixed teams of 3-5 people. We then give you a grand challenge to come up with a solution for in 50 minutes and then pitch it to the audience and a panel of expert judges to win some great prizes! Did we mention pizza and drinks are on us?

Event is free but bookings essential.

Grand Challenge - AR/VR

Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are on the precipice of rapid expansion as global revenues for the AR/VR market are projected to increase by at least 100% over the next four years.

As hardware developers make AR and VR headsets more affordable and user-friendly, startups are developing new use cases far beyond gaming – applying AR and VR to everything from marketing and advertising to medicine and healthcare to even space exploration and military training.

Further, the potential for this technology to help us understand and transform ourselves and the world around us is limitless. VR & AR can connect us and through education via immersive experiences creates awareness, and can lead the world to act on global issues.

Focus your solution on challenges in the following categories:

  • Healthcare and Medicine
  • Film and Advertising
  • Internet of Things
  • Education and AR/VR for Good
  • Architecture, Engineering and Construction
  • Gaming and entertainment
  • Machine Learning and AI
  • Sports engagement

In your 3 minute presentation you will need to outline:

* What is your solution to this problem?

* Who are your customers and why would they want this product/service?

* What is unique about your solution?

* What is your potential business model? Are you selling this idea to the government, commercialising it or building a social enterprise?
