Historical Indigenous Figures
A special screening and presentation with Emeritus Professor John Maynard
The University of Newcastle's Purai Global Indigenous History Centre warmly invites you to this special screening and presentation as part of Reconciliation Week, "Historical Indigenous Figures".
Distinguished Professor Larissa Behrendt sat down with Professor Maynard to look at the hidden historical figures in the Indigenous movement. This culminated in a six-part webisode series following the men and women who have been icons in Professor Maynard’s life. Sportsmen, linguists and diggers are just some of them.
Join Professor Maynard, Co-Director of the Purai Global Indigenous History Centre, for a short discussion on the missing, the forgotten, the denied, the overlooked and erased parts of Australian history. This will be followed by a screening of four of the webisode’s short films.
This is a free event but registration is essential due to limited numbers.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
