Bang for your buck: Data Linkage with ALSWH Workshop
Conducted by Research Centre For Generational Health and Ageing
Using existing administrative data provides more bang for your buck when it comes to leveraging study data. The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) is a national longitudinal health study involving more than 57,000 women, having collected over 20 years of data on the health and wellbeing of Australian women. ALSWH includes four cohorts (born 1989-95, 1973-78, 1946-51 and 1921-26), allowing for within and between generational comparisons, as well as providing linked data to national and state based administrative health data resources.
Combining prospectively collected survey data with administrative health databases opens up another dimension to health research. Participants will learn about the available linked administrative datasets (MBS, PBS, aged care, hospital, cancer, perinatal), with advice on dealing with the specific data characteristics and tips for combining the ALSWH survey data with the linked data. Examples will be provided to give participants context and to demonstrate how the linked data can be utilised.
Who should attend?
This workshop is ideal for researchers who are about to start using the ALSWH data or for researchers who want to know more about the ALSWH data.
