Experience Physica Curiosa : The Edges of Knowing, a University Library exhibition that explores the evolving nature of scientific knowledge.
Science is often seen as a collection of static facts, yet history shows us that scientific "truths" shift over time. Physica Curiosa, published 358 years ago, captures this transition—where mythical beings coexisted with empirical observations.
This encyclopaedic work, featuring angels, demons, and medieval studies of the natural world, marks a pivotal moment when imagination paved the way for scientific inquiry.
Through selected plates from Physica Curiosa and other rare books from Special Collections, this exhibition celebrates the role of imagination in shaping scientific thought.
Join us as we reflect on how knowledge transforms across centuries.
Exhibition closes on 1 June 2025
