Library Webinar: 3D Scanning the Worimi Fishing Tree
worimi-fishing-tree
Known now as a permanent fixture within Newcastle Museum, the Worimi Fishing Tree was rescued and shifted to its current resting place at the request of Worimi Elders who feared its total destruction after vandals caused significant damage in 2001.
To the Worimi, the Fishing Tree held particular significance for generations. Pre-dating colonial trespass to the Port, the Fishing Tree provided a strategic lookout in the daily hunt for fish, seen as great dark shoals from its branches.
In January 2022 Worimi Land Council undertook a project to scan the tree in 3D with the intention of creating a learning object for permanent exhibition on Country at the new Murrook Culture Centre, officially launching in 2023.
Please join the Museum Director and proud Biripi woman, Nicole Chaffey as she shares her take on the project.
