Glamour on Glass focuses on the portrayal of women and fashion in the Newcastle Sun

Join us for the Glamour on Glass: Memories from the Newcastle Sun.

The exhibition features images from The Newcastle Sun glass plate collection (1918-1936) held by the Library. The collection covers the early period of the newspaper’s operations, from its inception at the closing stages of World War I, through to the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Glamour on Glass focuses on the portrayal of women and fashion in the Newcastle Sun. Featuring photographic prints of fashion models in structured daywear and glamorous evening wear, the exhibition explores the impact of the Great Depression on fashion trends and garment production during the 1930s. Also on display are items on loan from The Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles, including accessories chosen by women of the 30s to compliment the fashions of the day.

The exhibition will be opened by Associate Professor Nancy Cushing, PhD (History).

Where: Level 2 of Auchmuty Library, Callaghan Campus.

Exhibition closes on 29 September.
