Kaayi yanndiin (Hello everyone),
The University of Newcastle Library invites you to join a guided tour of the Ea la wamanbila exhibition at Special Collections, led by Library Officer Kua Swan. Kua is a proud Gomeroi Murri & Wiradjuri Koori, born on Anaiwan country (Armidale) and now working on Awabakal country. The exhibition presents a wide range of Special Collections material with Indigenous content.
Ea la Wamanbila translates to ‘Here look, let’s go’ in Awabakal language. Depending on the context, this can also mean ‘let’s start something’, ‘let’s start thinking,’ ‘let’s change the way’, ‘let’s add to’.
This exhibition aims to adjust the way Aboriginal culture and traditional knowledges are represented, by presenting and questioning western traditional knowledge and value systems.
‘Let’s add to’ our knowledge and adjust our thinking by weaving together ideas and perspective and begin the process of decolonisation.
There will be two exhibition tours taking place.
