Health Innovation Incubator 2026: Online Information Session

Thinking about applying? Find out what the ten month program involves, who it is for and how to put your name forward. One hour, online.

You have an idea that would make things better for your patients or for the people delivering care. What you do not have is a clear path from that idea to something the health system will actually adopt.

The Health Innovation Incubator exists for exactly that. It is a ten month program run jointly by the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Local Health District and Hunter Medical Research Institute, delivered from the Health Innovation Living Lab inside John Hunter Hospital. Where most innovation programs finish when the learning stops, this one keeps going into the hard part: procurement, clinical governance, IP and the trust building that real implementation demands.

This online session is your chance to work out whether it is right for you before you apply. We will cover what the program includes across its three phases, the honest time commitment involved, how IP is handled depending on who employs you, what the application and intake process looks like and how a mixed cohort of clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers and health entrepreneurs works in practice.

Then we will answer your questions.

Who should come: Clinicians, health workers, allied health professionals, researchers and health entrepreneurs across the Hunter region. You do not need business experience and you do not need a fully formed idea. Curiosity is enough at this stage.

Managers and department heads considering supporting a team member are also very welcome.
