Women to the Front
As part of our celebrations for International Women’s Day 2021, the University of Newcastle presents Women to the Front, an event which recognises and highlights women, transgender and gender diverse musicians and performers who are all current University of Newcastle students. This incredibly talented line-up is a just a small taste of what this community brings to the music scene of our University and local regions.
Headlining the night are the uni’s 2020 Band Comp Winners - Viragos! Viragos is a five-piece funk-pop band fronted by three powerful women. Joining them is the funky-jazz four-piece, Hey Jan, 2020 Band Comp Wild Card Winners!
Also featuring is a fresh new soul band, BLOOM, featuring Mia Sifflet's electric vocals.
The gig will open with three solo artists - Piper Rodrigues, Maeve Grant and Ella Day - who cross the genres of country, folk and jazz.
And make sure you stay for DJ SMILLZ - The University's first ever female DJ Comp winner (2020) who will be bringing the best dance vibes to end the night.
If you love live music and want to support our women, transgender and gender diverse musicians, don’t miss Women to the Front!
Set times and student-priced drinks TBA.
