About this event

The University of Newcastle is honoured to join universities across the country in a special virtual address by His Excellency President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, on Wednesday 3 August 2022.

The University of Newcastle will hold an in-person screening at Callaghan campus CT202, with President Zelenskyy speaking live via video link from Ukraine.

The event, hosted by the ANU Centre for European Studies, will be opened by The Hon. Julie Bishop and feature a Q&A session between students and President Zelenskyy. Director of the ANU Centre for European Studies, Ms Anne McNaughton, and Head of the National Security College, Professor Rory Medcalf AM, will provide observations to close the virtual event.

This is a unique opportunity for our students to engage - in real time - with a world leader navigating the confronting realities of war, and to reflect on the importance of upholding and defending the rule of law, democracy and the rules-based international order.

Nearing six months since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, President Zelenskyy continues to inspire the world through his leadership and service to his country. We are incredibly grateful to have President Zelenskyy share his time and thoughts with our community.

The University of Newcastle is proud to join the Special Address as a partner university, and in support of the Ukrainian people.
