Leadership Stories: An Evening with Elliot Waters

This in person event will be held on Thursday 12 Feb 2026 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm

A person wearing a black zip-up jacket with the University of Newcastle Australia logo stands indoors, resting hands in front. The background shows a modern interior with blue accents and blurred lighting, suggesting an academic or institutional setting.

Join us for an inspiring evening with Elliot Waters, host of The Dysregulated Podcast and recipient of the University of Newcastle’s 2025 Young Alumni Award. Elliot has transformed his lived experience with mental ill-health into a powerful platform for change, reaching audiences across Australia and beyond. From volunteering with the Black Dog Institute to producing over 200 podcast episodes downloaded in 70 countries, Elliot has become a leading voice in mental health advocacy, education, and destigmatisation.

Elliot will share his journey of courage and resilience, and how he combined academic study in psychology with personal insight to influence national research, policy, and community outreach. He’ll offer practical lessons in leadership, authenticity, and compassion - skills that can strengthen both your personal life and professional path.

Doors open at 5:30 PM for a 6:00 PM start. Elliot’s talk will be followed by a Q&A session and networking opportunities, with light refreshments provided throughout the evening.

All are welcome to attend, including staff, students, and alumni.

This event is proudly presented by iLEAD, the University’s leadership program for students. Student attendees are encouraged to explore the program and discover how iLEAD can support their own leadership journey.
