This event was held on Tuesday 19 March 2024

We have listened our student community and our equity cohorts about the need to revert “Harmony Day” back to its original name - the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

You can read about the origins of both days with this Indigenous X article. The Australian Human Rights Commission has also released this Fact Sheet to explain and “demonstrate how 'harmony' hides structural and systemic racism”. And you can visit the Racism. It Stops With Me website to learn more about racism and how to take action to create change.

UNSA will now incorporate the University’s observation of The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination into a more expansive and inclusive event which we are calling HEARD - Helping Everyone Achieve Respect and Dignity.

The HEARD acronym was created by UNSA and Wollotuka, and HEARD will be a day for students to come together and share space and culture. In 2024 HEARD will be marked with a day of music, food, and stalls from UNSA cultural clubs, Wollotuka, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, International, Chaplaincy and Wellbeing.

When: Tuesday 19 March, 12pm-1pm

Where: Ourimbah Courtyard
