The Festival Chamber Choir, directed by Christopher Allan, brings together some of Newcastle’s finest singers, many with professional singing backgrounds, who relish the opportunity to explore the a capella repertoire.

Join us in the Harold Lobb Concert Hall for this superb Festival Chamber Choir performance of choral works under the baton of Christopher Allan.

Newcastle Music Festival Chamber Choir, led by director Christopher Allan, formed in 2019 and gave a very successful performance of Bach’s Cantata BWV 147 (Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben) in the Newcastle Music Festival of that year. The Covid interruptions of 2020 and 2021 caused all choirs to cease their rehearsals and performance.

The Festival Chamber Choir reformed in 2023, with many of its original singers, and some new additions to the ranks. Some of the singers have professional singing backgrounds in groups such as Opera Australia Chorus, Cantillation, Echology, Cantabo, Christ Church Cathedral Choir and Newcastle University Choir. As residents of Newcastle, they delight in the opportunity to participate in a small, local choir with an emphasis on the choral works of Bach and other early composers. Much of their repertoire is performed a capella.
