Investiture of the eighth Chancellor The Hon. Patricia Forsythe AM
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Newcastle, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO, warmly invites you to attend the Investiture Ceremony of The Hon. Patricia Forsythe AM.
At this esteemed event, The Hon. Patricia Forsythe will be officially welcomed and inducted as the University’s eighth Chancellor.
We hope you can join us for this special occasion and share this important celebration with our University community and people from across our regions.
About the occasion
In January 2024, the University of Newcastle appointed The Hon. Patricia Forsythe AM. The Chancellor provides leadership and guidance to the University of Newcastle Council and is responsible for ensuring that the Council fulfils its obligations.
The Investiture is a traditional academic ceremony in the first year of the Chancellor’s tenure in which they are formally ‘vested’ with the symbols and ornaments of their particular office.
This ceremony will be held in The Great Hall on Callaghan Campus at 10am. The ceremony will be followed by a reception where guests will have the opportunity to connect and celebrate.

10am: Guests arrive
10.15am: Welcome ceremony on McMullin Lawn
10.30am: Guests seated in the Great Hall
11am: Official Ceremony commences
11.45am: Official ceremony concludes
10.50am: Post-ceremony reception within The Great Hall
12.45pm: Celebrations conclude
Parking: Parking station P1 & P2 is the closest carpark to the Great Hall where the event will be held. P1 & P2 is paid parking between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours, parking is free.
Accessibility: Accessible seating is available to patrons who may be wheelchair or mobility users, those with low mobility or struggle with stairs, and their companions. Please contact event@newcastle.edu.au if you would like to reserve these seats.

A livestream link will be sent out prior to the event’s commencement.
