Neurodivergent Student Orientation Program Day 1: Preparing for University Success – Semester 1, 2026

Our Neurodivergent Student Orientation Program is a 2-day event to support your transition to the University of Newcastle taking place on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 January 2026.
This orientation program is a chance to connect with fellow students who share similar experiences.
What will be provided: Morning tea and lunch on both days and a Welcome Student Starter Pack.
Who should attend? This event is open to students who identify as Neurodivergent and who want to get off to a great start in Semester 1 2026. A family member or support person is welcome to attend.
Day 1 - Monday 19 January 2026
- A neurodivergent student will share their experience of university
- AccessAbility staff will tell you more about support available including Peer Support Programs
- The Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky, AO will welcome you to the University
- Enjoy morning tea with your peers
- Activity: Develop a Student Wellbeing and Success Plan with University Counsellors
- Enjoy lunch with your peers
- Academic Learning Support will help you plan for academic success
- Learn about how to navigate and get the most out of Library services. There is the option to join a library tour for those who have time.
Day 2 - Tuesday 20 January 2026
- A neurodivergent student will present student basics - what you need to know
- A representative from the University Student Association will tell you about their services and support
- Enjoy morning tea with your peers
- Meet neurodivergent staff and hear about their journey at UON
- Activity: Develop your support network with University Counsellors
- Enjoy lunch with your peers
- Learn how the Careers Service can support you throughout your program, from first year to graduation
- Current neurodivergent students will take you on a customised campus tour.
Cost: This event is free to attend
